We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden.
— Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Aloha. My name is Barbara Uechi and I have lived in Kona, Hawaii for most of my life. I was once a real estate broker and an active community supporter (non-profit boards, fundraising and sign-waving), then became a yoga teacher, massage therapist and studio owner. Three years ago I closed Kona Yoga for the next, best thing to happen.

Not long ago, I found a box of old journals and read something that felt like a whack on the head from a magic wand. I had written:

There are some things (many things) in the present, that I used to “daydream” about years ago. That is probably why I feel that my current thoughts will also materialize. I am going to have...the lifestyle, health, and happiness that I foresee. - September 14, 1985.

Now here it is, the beginning of 2016 and it's finally dawned on me that I am living that life. I didn't specifically dream of making millions of dollars, being a famous talk show host, or finding the solution to end world hunger (and I didn't). I seem to have just wished for the life that fortune and fame are assumed to provide, and grew into it. I have the life, health and happiness that I dreamed of nearly thirty years ago. My future is now...what's next?

Lessons in Balance is where I:

  1. take a look at how my past decisions have influenced my present life,
  2. make some decisions about the quality of my future and
  3. connect with others who are (or interested in) living the life they've always wanted.
